HMS Asuka Langley Soryu (CV-2)

HMS Asuka Langley Soryu

HMS Asuka Langley Soryu (CV-2) is an aircraft carrier, the flagship of the Langley Navy and the largest vessel in the fleet. Formerly the Shinra Republic Navy ship SRS Republic, it was initially put up for sale by the SRN in 2010 but was not actually purchased by the Langley Navy until 2013; after an extensive refitting in a Shinra Republic naval yard, it officially entered service with the Langley Navy in 2015. The ship is named in honor of Duchess Asuka Langley Soryu.

The Asuka Langley Soryu replaced the Neptune class amphibious assault ship HMS Ashford as the Langley Navy's fleet flagship. Both ships are permanently assigned to the Combined Expeditionary Fleet, comprising them and numerous other vessels (two helicopter carriers, two LPDs, two battlecruisers, fourteen frigates, four submarines, and four auxiliaries). Asuka Langley Soryu has most notably participated in the 2017 Misterian Communist revolution, where it and the rest of the CEF assisted in evacuation and humanitarian relief efforts.

Behind the Scenes[]

The HMS Asuka Langley Soryu is based on the American supercarrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67).

The ship is named after Asuka Langley Soryu, a character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime franchise. It should be noted that Asuka herself was named after two other aircraft carriers, the American USS Langley (CV-1) and the Japanese Soryu.
